Our bodies are records of the past

Our bodies are records of the past...

Stored memories of traumatic events primarily in the brain's emotional and memory centers, like the amygdala and hippocampus, can manifest physically through various symptoms like muscle tension, chronic pain, rapid heartbeat, or even changes in sleep patterns, essentially creating a "body memory" of the traumatic experience; this means the body can react physically to triggers related to the past trauma even if the conscious mind doesn't fully recall the event.

Many trauma survivors and the grieving refer to these events as waves that come out of nowhere...

But your trauma isn’t just “in your head”. Trauma leaves a lasting imprint on your body. It disrupts your memory storage processes and changes the way your brain works.

Trauma left untreated can have a big impact on your future health. Trauma can lead to physical and emotional distress, which can lead to more serious health conditions, such as heart attack, stroke, obesity, diabetes, and cancer.

Brain activation:
When a traumatic event occurs, the brain activates the fight-or-flight response, causing a surge of stress hormones which can impact the body's physical state.

Dissociation:
Sometimes, due to the overwhelming nature of trauma, the brain may not process memories fully, leading to fragmented memories stored as bodily sensations rather than clear narratives.

Physical manifestations:
These stored traumatic memories can manifest physically through symptoms like headaches, digestive issues, muscle tension, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, and heightened anxiety in response to triggers.

But, through neuroplacticity and epigenetics, we have to ability to reprogram the body and the subconscious mind through learning awareness and mindfulness techniques.

Our bodies have a very special way of sending us messages.

Most people are not self-aware and just allow the feelings to overtake them, while some of us can learn to be aware of these messages and redirect our thoughts, emotions, and feelings which results in the body's addiction to the past slowly be replaced with an addiction to joy, happiness, and positivity.

By learning these awareness and mindfulness techniques along with a healthy gut biome/diet, we can let go of the past and learn to live fully in the present where the trauma no longer binds us to the event in the past.
